The first Haddenham Beer festival was held on Saturday 10 July 2004 at the Haddenham Village Hall, the idea arose as a result of a request by the parish Council to think of ideas that would put Haddenham on the map.

The first festival was a small affair with 9 barrels of ale, it rained but all the ale was sold and the surplus for the day went towards the establishment of a tree nursery at the local allotments to supply young trees for Haddenham. Little did the organisers at that time know that they had started an annual event that now can be counted as one of the largest one-day beer festivals in the UK. In 2007 a second festival was introduced to the calendar, Haddenham Winterfest, the start of Christmas festivities in Haddenham.

The Beer festivals are organised by a charity specifically established to manage the festivals and the distribution of funds via cash grants to the worthy causes within the Haddenham and surrounding areas communities.

Both of our festivals feature real ales & lagers from some of the country’s best micro and family brewers as well as unique farm ciders & perrys. In addition there are soft drinks, wines, Pimms bar/mulled wine, various entertainments and great food. The generosity of our sponsors and of course, you – the festival go-er, has enabled the festivals to, so far, distribute approximately £95,000 to village and local worthy causes in surrounding communities.

The success of each festival relies totally on the participation of the local communities and businesses and the voluntary efforts of many individuals. The income for the charity is derived from three major sources:

  • Income raised on the day of the festivals themselves
  • Sponsorships received from local companies
  • Donations made by individuals

It is vitally important to the success of the Charity to maximise our income and we would ask as many people as possible to consider helping us raise more funds to distribute to the communities covered in our remit. Any help is most welcome.

Our Summer Beer Festival takes place in the Youth & Community Centre on the first Saturday in July that provides plenty of space in a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere and is a firm favourite in villagers’ diaries. Our Winterfest, by contrast, is modelled on the continental winter markets with a large number of stalls selling interesting and unusual wares alongside the beer festival itself. Until this year it has been held in the superb setting of Haddenham’s 14th Century Tithe Barn but in 2010 due to the popularity of the event we have decided to move to the Village Hall complex incorporating the Scout & Guide Hut. We would have loved to stay at the beautiful Tithe Barn location but sadly we have become a victim of our own success.
